How To Create Custom Maternity Wear in The Sims 3

Sick of the randomised combinations of outfits your pregnant Sims end up in? Looking to style something a little more flattering or unique? If you’re in a 100 baby challenge like me, you might just need a refreshed wardrobe to distract you from the chaos. So here is my guide to customising your Sims’ maternity wardrobes. There are two ways to do this, with and without mods.

Strike Preemptively (Without Mods)

This method is all about preparation. You can opt for two modes of preparation depending on your preference and the time you have available. The key here is to ensure that before your Sim discovers their pregnancy and would normally change into their maternity wear, you have already planned their outfit. You can therefore do this days in advance by assigning a second or third outfit per category, or you can do this as soon as you hear that jingle or see the nauseous moodlet. Either way, your first step is to head to the dresser and Plan Outfit.

These are the only maternity wear options from all packs

Create an outfit for your Sim, use create a style to give it that bit extra, and when your Sim finds out they are pregnant they will only change outfits if they are wearing something non-maternity suitable. If your Sim is getting married don’t worry! I only recently learned that the base game wedding dress is maternity compatible. I would also recommend checking hairstyles for every outfit, especially career.

Using Nraas Master Controller

If you are using mods, follow the options by clicking on your pregnant Sim: Nraas > Master Controller > Stylist / Dresser (without Ambitions installed), or Master Controller > Advanced > Edit in CAS (the usual Edit in CAS cheat won’t work without mods).

Doing this after your Sim has discovered their pregnancy and gained the Pregnant moodlet will mean that CAS automatically removes all non-maternity items and you can style them without having to filter through and remember what works and what doesn’t, it also avoids any time constraints.

Warning! Once your Sim is in labour, you cannot amend their outfit since clicking on anything other than the Sim is impossible and clicking on them only gives the option to Go or Take to Hospital. I managed to get some results by selecting Take to Hospital to force them to change into their every day wear and then cancelling the interaction for the sake of decent screenshots but this doesn’t always work.

I swear, the sunglasses were not part of the plan for Hattie
